COME WORSHIP

WITH US AT ZION

Pastor Michael Williams, Jr. leads worship in our sanctuary every Sunday at 9 am.

OUR BEGINNING

Zion is one of the oldest churches in Montgomery County, if not this section of the state. It was organized by Hope Hull in 1786, and called the Scarboro Meeting House. The meeting place was built of logs and stood near the site of the present church building.
About 1820, a frame church was erected near the log building. Preaching was held the first Wednesday of every month.

OUR BUILDING

In 1854 the present Church was erected. The lot was donated by Congressman Edmund Deberry, near the original site. The building was constructed mainly by John Bogan and Henry Mills, better known as Fedder Mills. This building had, as most of that era, a slave gallery which was torn down in 1890. Zion Church was dedicated in May 1854 on the third Sunday by Rev. C.H. Phillips.
